John Gregory Madison, cherished father, husband, son, and brother walked home on May 1, 2019 guided by family and wrapped in love. He was born January 6, 1968 in Laramie, Wyoming. On John’s 11th birthday his family moved to Texas where he attended Richardson schools and graduated from JJ Pearce High School in 1986. He attended the University of Wyoming, then moved to Jackson Hole. In 1996, John moved back to Texas and shortly thereafter met his future wife, Patty. The couple married March 20, 1999 and a few years later they were blessed with their daughter, Brooke. The three of them conquered the world as a team. They traveled often, laughed daily and were the best of friends.
John spent his entire career in the educational furniture industry and most recently worked at J&S Equipment Company in Richardson; a job he enjoyed very much. John loved architecture and design and left a legacy of libraries and classrooms all over Texas that he designed and often installed himself. He was a creative man who was a talented woodworker and leather smith.
John was a kind soul, generous and big-hearted. He was funny with a subtle sarcasm, and sometimes flat-out corny. He loved sports and was an excellent golfer and devoted Dallas Cowboys fan. John loved trivia, and always liked to enlighten us with interesting thoughts. He loved games and movies and was always up for either with friends and family. John’s greatest pleasure was music. He enjoyed many concerts in his lifetime, loved classic rock and was able to feel a song all the way down to his beautiful soul.
John was an adoring husband to Patty, a wonderful son to Terry, and a heroic brother to Lisa. The greatest joy in his life was his daughter, Brooke. He was proud of Brooke every moment of every day and he was so tickled that she has his same sense of humor, love of music, and beautiful brown eyes.
John’s death was unexpected and sudden. As we struggle to find peace, we are reminded that we are only on this earth to walk each other home.
John’s family will hold a private memorial for him at the Snowy Range area in Wyoming this fall.
