IN LOVING MEMORY

John David Starr

Dec 25 1953 - Apr 27 2017

A genius that walks, except for his little lazy streak, who above all loved bad movies, laughing until he cried, and good people. He will forever be remembered in the hearts of the people he loved most.  John David Starr of Plano, Texas passed away April 27, 2017, at the age of 63 doing what he loved, which was playing golf with his wife.  He was born December 25, 1953, to David Starr and Betty Jacques Starr in Steubenville, Ohio.   John married Lynne Yaling Hong on April 13, 1996 in Richardson, Texas.

He heard the call of duty and served his country in the United States Army and played the trombone in the military band.

John loved to make people laugh, table tennis, golf, movies, chocolate, a china doll, international cuisine, chocolate with peanut butter, camping, Guns & Roses, Chicago, Heart, Journey, travel, especially on cruises and more chocolate, but not necessarily in that order.

He hated vegetables and hypocrites. Also, not necessarily in that order.

John visited all fifty states, at least twenty countries, and went on seven cruises.  He completed two marathons, three triathlons, and earned at least thirty table tennis trophies.  If there is a trophy for the worst golfer, he would have earned that as well. As a teenager, John played in a band called The Music Shop. He was also known by his family and friends as the best comedian.  John collected three thousand plus movies and consumed one thousand pounds of M&Ms, which is only three hundred and seven pounds more than the average American.

John was the world’s most wonderful husband, daddy, grandpa, brother, uncle, and son-in-law.

John is survived by spouse Lynne Yaling Hong of Plano, Texas; children, Ed Starr (Melissa) of Rowlett, Texas, Jonni Parker (Eric) of Arlington, Texas, and Ben Starr of Lexington, Kentucky; grandchildren, Charlie Parker and Isaac Starr; and sisters, Donna Starr and Bobbe Owens.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dave and Betty Starr.

A visitation will begin at 1 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 6, 2017, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to WHS Alumni Scholarship fund, Tzu Chi USA, Operation Kindness, and/or Boys Scouts of America.
