John David Skelton, age 83, of Celina, Texas, passed away Wednesday, August 22, 2018, at his home in Celina. John was born March 18, 1935, in McKinney, Texas, to Jack and Blanche (Dickey) Skelton. John grew up in Dallas, Texas, where he graduated from Adamson High School. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged. He married Eleanor Miller on January 1, 1957, in Durant, Oklahoma. John worked many years for Taylor Publishing Company in Dallas as a press operations manager. He later worked at the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. John loved spending time with his family and was of the Baptist faith.
John is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Eleanor Miller Skelton, of Celina, Texas; daughters, Laura McDonald, of Conroe, Texas, Julie Skelton and partner, Kathy Tipps of Fort Worth, Texas, and Jeannie Shroeter and husband, Aaron of Gunter, Texas; grandchildren: Ross McDonald and wife, Katy of Conroe, Texas, Megan McDonald of Euless, Texas, Hailey Schroeter of Wylie, Texas, Ryan Schroeter and wife, Magen of Anna, Texas, Elizabeth Schroeter and Seth Schroeter, both of Gunter, Texas, Lindsey Wingfield of The Colony, Texas, and Zachary Wingfield of Celina, Texas; six great- grandchildren; and a host of loving family and friends.
John is preceded in death by his father, Jack Skelton, his mother, Blanche Dickey Skelton, and a daughter, Amy Wingfield.
Funeral services will be held at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel in Gunter, Texas, at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 24, 2018. Interment will follow at Cottage Hill Cemetery, Celina, Texas. Family and friends are invited to the funeral home at their convenience on Thursday to pay their respects and to sign the register book. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
