IN LOVING MEMORY

John D. Givens

Jul 10 1972 - Oct 26 2023

John David Givens passed away on October 26, 2023, in Dallas, Texas at the age of 51. He was born to John and Edna (Smith) Givens on July 10, 1972, in Memphis, Tennessee, where he was surrounded by a large family of aunts, uncles and cousins. When John was 11, his family moved to Oklahoma City where he graduated from Putnam City North high school in 1990.

John graduated from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center with degrees in Radiologic Technology and Radiation Therapy and continued his education by becoming a Certified Medical Dosimetrist. John married Suzanne Keefe on April 22, 2005, on the beach in Hawaii. In 2007, they were blessed with their amazing daughter, Addison.

Smart and ambitious, John worked his way through a distinguished career, starting at Mesquite Cancer Center before moving to work at Philips Healthcare. John worked at Philips for over 20 years. In that time, he received many awards and accolades, including the Philips Pinnacle Award 3 times. John took great pride in his career, and he found great satisfaction in being an expert in his field and a strong coach and mentor to his team. In addition, John co-authored the CT simulation chapters in Elsevier’s Principles and Practices of Radiation Therapy textbook.

In his free time, John enjoyed spending time with his friends and had a passion for working on cars and his motorcycle. Johns’ loyalty and dedication to his friends was unmatched. Many can atest to his kindness, generosity, and mischievous sense of humor. Perhaps what his friends will remember most are the practical jokes he loved to play and the nicknames he bestowed upon all of his friends.

Above all, John’s most profound legacy was the love he had for his daughter, Addison. She was the center of his universe, and he was always bragging about her accomplishments to friends and strangers alike.

As we remember John, let us celebrate the remarkable life he led, cherishing the memories we shared and honoring the indelible mark he has left on our hearts.
