IN LOVING MEMORY

John Charles Hardin

May 30 1948 - Oct 10 2025

John Charles Hardin, of Anna, Texas, passed away on October 10, 2025, at the age of 77. He was born on May 30, 1948, in San Antonio, Texas.  Seven days later John Paul and Martha McKinney Hardin adopted him and made him their son for life.

Growing up in McKinney, he made lifelong friendships that allowed him to have support from a wide range and diverse group of fascinating individuals that helped create the person he became.

John graduated from McKinney High School in 1966 and went on to earn his undergraduate degree from Southern Methodist University. He received his Juris Doctor from St. Mary’s University School of Law in San Antonio in 1973.

Practicing criminal defense law for five decades, he served his clients and the community with professionalism and integrity.  John felt that everyone had the right to a fair trial and legal representation, regardless of their guilt or innocence.

And as hard as John worked defending his clients, he played even harder.  Golf, spoons, family and God – not in that particular order.  Whether it was leaving his practice for two months to play golf in England and Scotland or driving his friend Vince Vance’s tour bus one season… Everything he did, he did to win or excel.

John considered his family his greatest accomplishment.  He loved each and every member and being with them brought him great joy.  He is survived by his wife, Melinda Pettingill of Anna; son, John Cody Hardin of Fischer, Texas; daughter, Brittany Nicole Putman and husband, Travis of Blanco, Texas; son, Dillon Hardin and partner, Britany Perez of Fischer, Texas; son, Hayden Hardin of McKinney, Texas; grandchildren, Rhett Putman, Bailey Putman, and Emory Hardin; brother, Andy Hardin and wife, Amy of Frisco, Texas; and nephews, Thomas and Blaine Hardin.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Martha Hardin.

The older John got the more he appreciated and expressed his faith in God.  At times he could not contain his joy and was always ready to provide witness of the greatness and salvation provided by Jesus Christ.
