Joe Wheeler Stephens, Jr. quietly went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Friday, May 7, 2021 at home in Van Alstyne, Texas. Joe was born on December 4, 1937 to Joe Wheeler and Lois (Bomar) Stephens, Sr. in Dallas, Texas. He married his wonderful wife of 63 years, Elizabeth (Betty) Ann Crowley on June 7, 1957.
Joe and Betty lived in Frisco for 25 years where they retired and were members of Stonebriar Community Church. In preparation for their latter years, they moved to McKinney where he lovingly cared for Betty. He last attended Elmont Baptist Church with his son and daughter-in-law.
He spent most of his working life in the banking industry which included membership in Jaycees and Rotary Club while he also taught financial concepts to high schoolers. Joe loved auto racing, whether it was watching Nascar or working on a team in the pits with midget and sprint cars. He also liked going hunting with his dad when he was younger and encouraged fishing and bowling with his children.
He is survived by his three children, Dawn Marie Luman of Nacogdoches, Lois Ann Adkison and husband, Randy of Liberty, Missouri and Joe Wheeler Stephens, III and wife, Cynthia Lou of Van Alstyne, twelve grandchildren, three great granddaughters, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by Betty, his parents, Joe Wheeler Sr. and Lois, his older sister, Bonnigene and husband, Hartzel Shipp, nieces, Ruth Ann and Deborah Sue Shipp and son-in-law, Kenneth Wayne Luman.
In support of our local, state, and federal govt including CDC directives and to protect the physical health, safety and well-being of our community, only a limited number of guests will be allowed to attend the funeral service.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 14, 2021 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas. Interment is to follow the funeral service at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen.
A “come and go” visitation will be held on Thursday May 13, 2021 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen. Only a limited number of guests will be allowed to enter the funeral home facility at any one time to maintain social distancing.
The family requests Memorial Donations be made in honor of Joe to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
