IN LOVING MEMORY

Joe Dan Webb

Nov 01 1962 - Jan 04 2020

Joe Dan Webb of Allen, Texas passed away on January 4, 2020 at the age of 57. He was born on November 1, 1962 to Basil Lee Webb, Jr. and Bethelyne (Rogers) Webb in Lubbock, Texas.

Joe Dan had a love for baseball which started at an early age, learning to play from his dad who also coached his Little League for many years.  His dad also taught him the game of golf, and they played together while he was a teen and again after his dad had retired. Joe Dan attended Monterey High School in Lubbock, Texas and was First Chair All-State Trumpeter. Joe Dan was asked numerous times to play taps at military funerals.  He competed in many UIL contests where his mom accompanied him on the piano. He was the first freshman to play a solo in the Goin’ Band at Texas Tech University, where he graduated from in 1991.

He earned his private pilot license at the age of 16 and while married owned a 1970 4-seat Piper Cherokee 180 airplane.  The family had many fun trips travelling to Illinois, Branson, South Padre Island and along the coast, and out to Lubbock for Texas Tech football and baseball games.

Joe Dan proudly served his country in the United States Airforce from 1981 – 1986 and was stationed in Berlin for two and a half years at Tempelhof Airport as a radar technician (or at least so he said, it was on Top Secret equipment). While in Europe he enjoyed skiing in the Alps and pasta in Italy at the end of each run. After returning to Lubbock, Joe Dan served in the Navy Reserve for two years.

He married Debra Diffenderffer on July 12, 1992 at Farmers Branch Historical Park.  A little over a year later they built their first house in Carrollton and their daughter Amy was born, followed by their son Kevin almost four years later. Joe Dan wanted to pursue a career as a commercial pilot (that love for flying).  So they loaded up the truck and moved to Sulphur Springs, 95 miles east of Dallas - so he could fly back and forth to work to build up flight hours.  After some time, many of the positions he was looking for were no longer as obtainable. The family liked the small town charm and decided to stay and so built their second house on 30 acres, complete with 2 kids, 2 dogs, 2 cats, 2 horses, and a failed 4-H project involving 50 baby chickens. Fast forward to near the end of high school for both kids and the “city” started calling Joe Dan and Deb to return. They moved to east Plano and renovated a fixer upper for four years.  During this time, Joe Dan and Deb finally became empty nesters and started travelling with fellow empty nesters Keanan and Cindy Wright, on a couple of cruises and spending most every Saturday night together out on the town. Just last year they built their third house in Allen and enjoyed many competitive ping pong games and darts with these friends and family. Joe Dan enjoyed his new music room and practiced many hours on the guitar and singing with Amy and Kevin preparing for various open mic events in the area.

Joe Dan began working in 2000 for Health Care Service Corporation (Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas) in Richardson, Texas. He held different positions over the years but most recently that of Senior Analytics Consultant for the past 6 years. His dedication to his team, Client Analytics Solutions, HCSC and each of his teammates as individuals was special.  He was the subject matter expert in many areas and was highly skilled in his field.  He was the team “data guy” and was an eager mentor to numerous appreciative teammates. Joe Dan will be missed for his sincerity, expertise and personable nature.

Joe Dan is survived by his wife, Debra Webb of Allen, Texas; daughter, Amy Webb of Denton, Texas; son, Kevin Webb of Denton, Texas; mother, Bethelyne Rogers Webb of Allen, Texas; brother, Gary Webb and wife, Lisa of Blue Ridge, Texas; nephew, Ryan Webb of Parker, Texas; niece, Sarah Ary and husband Matt of Knollwood, Texas; nephew, Brooks Yandell of  Katy, Texas; niece, Katie Webb Vanderbeek and husband, Pete of Goldsboro, North Carolina; and numerous other loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Basil Lee Webb; brother, David Mark Webb; and sister, Leigh Ann Webb.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, January 11, 2020 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation prior to the service at the funeral home.
