Joe W. Gilbert

August 16, 1947 - May 11, 2019

A Graveside Service for Mr. Joe W. Gilbert, 71 year old Leonard resident, is scheduled for 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at the Leonard Cemetery. Charles E. Wrenn will officiate. There will be no formal visitation.

Joe was born August 16, 1947 at Bogata in Red River County. His parents were John D. and Nina Elsie Lenderman Gilbert. Joe and his family moved to Leonard when Joe was around three years old and he was a Leonard resident for the rest of his life. Joe married Shirley Jean Vinson February 4, 1966 at Caddo Mills. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Leonard and he retired from Texas Instruments of Richardson after 30 years of service working as a research machinist. Joe passed away at the Leonard Manor Saturday, May 11, 2019.

Joe is survived by his wife: Shirley Vinson Gilbert of Leonard; his son and daughter-in-law: Anthony and Donna Gilbert of Plano; his daughter and son-in-law: Amy and Jason Simpson of Whitewright; his three grandchildren: Coleman Gilbert of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Travis and Shayla Gilbert of Anna and Laura Leigh Simpson of Whitewright; his one great-granddaughter: Olivia Gilbert of Anna; his brother and sister-in-law: Billy and Cathy Gilbert of Leonard.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by two brothers: Bobby Gilbert and John Anthony (Tony) Gilbert.
