IN LOVING MEMORY

Joe Owen Keyes

Dec 15 1942 - Jul 28 2022

Joe Owen Keyes, age 79, of Orting, WA, passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2022, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup, WA, with his wife, Della, by his side.  The youngest of four children, Joe was born on December 15, 1942, in McKinney, Texas, to William Eli Keyes, Sr., and Zona Iness (Reeder) Keyes. Joe attended grade school at the Texas School for the Deaf in Austin, Texas, before attending high school at the New Mexico School for the Deaf in Santa Fe, New Mexico, graduating in 1960.  For many years, he did a wide range of work for manufacturing companies Texas Instruments and Rockwell International. After retirement, he enjoyed gardening and cooking, which he inherited from his parents and older siblings. Joe had a love for fishing, cheering on the Dallas Cowboys and everything Texas. He was a very proud father and grandfather. Especially of both his sons' military service. Joe loved his grandchildren dearly. Later in life, he met Della and moved to Washington. Although a Texas boy at heart, he enjoyed the cooler weather and beautiful mountains. With lots of love and support from Della, he grew in his faith and love of the Lord, which he enjoyed sharing with others.

He is survived by his wife of twelve years, Della Rae (Morrow) Keyes; sister Peggy (Keyes) Atterberry; son Jeffery Lee Keyes; stepson Damon Reed Harris; seven grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and other loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his loving parents; sister Betty Jean May and brother-in-law Thomas Kirk May, Sr.; brother William Eli “Bozy” Keyes, Jr. and his wife Pauline; and niece Angela Atterberry.

A funeral service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas with burial to follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park.
