Joe Combest, age 85, of Fairview, Texas, passed away September 26, 2010. Joe was born September 30, 1924, in Valdasta, Texas, to Tolbert and Elizabeth Leanna (Johnson) Combest. He married Opal Lilly Teater. Joe proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII; most of his time was served in the Aleutian Islands. Joe was an active member of the VFW and American Legion for many years. Joe served the Dallas area as a home builder, and worked in commercial construction and excavating for many years until he fell ill. Joe was a hard working man. After his illness he still continued to work having a fruit and vegetable stand in Melisa, Texas. Joe loved people and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was of the Christian faith, and attended First United Methodist Church in Lucas, Texas. He is survived by his wife, Opal Combest of Fairview, Texas; children, Don Combest of Alabama, Shirley Matheny of Kingston, Oklahoma, Michael Combest of McKinney, Texas and Lisa Combest of Fairview, Texas; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and sister, Joan Moss of Farmersville, Texas. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one sister. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 1, 2010, at 12:00 noon, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel, in Allen, Texas. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park, Allen, Texas. Family and friends are invited to the funeral home at their convenience to pay their respects and to sign the register book on Thursday. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Thursday, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas.
