Joaquin (Ken) Blas

Joaquin (Ken) Blas, 92 years old, born in Guam in 1932, resident of Allen, Texas, formerly of El Paso, Texas, passed away peacefully Wednesday June 26, 2024 in Plano, Texas. He was a loving husband, father and Papa.

He retired as Staff Sergeant from the U.S. Army, where he fought in Korea and Vietnam. He served his country, proudly, for 20+ years. He also worked at Fedmart and Cashway in El Paso, Texas until each store closed, and worked at Ace Hardware until he retired.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Yaeko Blas; son, Eddie Blas and wife, Mary; daughter, Becky Malooly and husband, Don; daughter, Debbie Berry and husband, Joe; son, Alan Blas and wife, Rosa; daughter, Sarah Galipeau and husband, Paul; son, Sam Smitherman and wife, Tani; his son/grandson, Lt. Colonel Nick Blas and wife, Erika; and 18 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Tomiko Blas, and sons, Patrick Blas, John Blas, Larry Blas, and James Smitherman.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas. The service will also be live streamed at the following link: https://celebrationoflife.tv/blog/joaquin-ken-blas. A burial with full military honors will follow at Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery at 1:15 p.m.

The family will receive guests for a visitation from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday evening at the funeral home.
