Joann Darlene Ballenger, of McKinney, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2026, at the age of 89.
Joann was born on September 7, 1937, in Chouteau, Oklahoma, to John Delbert Weaver and Ruth Pauline (Peck) Weaver. She grew up in Sand Springs, Oklahoma, where she made many cherished memories and began a life centered around family, kindness, and service to others. Joann married the late Edward Melvin Ballenger in Rockwall, Texas. Together, they built a life filled with family and love. Joann was devoted to caring for her family. In addition to her dedication to her family, Joann had a generous heart and a strong desire to serve her community. She volunteered at the local hospital and also served as a school crossing guard. Joann also had a special talent for crocheting, creating beautiful handmade treasures that reflected her patience, creativity, and love for others.
Joann will be remembered for her loving heart, devotion to her family, kindness toward others, and the many ways she gave of herself throughout her life. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but her memory and the love she shared will remain in the hearts of her family and friends.
Joann is survived by her sons, Edward M. Ballenger, Jr. and wife, Kathy of Jacksboro, Texas, Kenneth Wayne Ballenger and wife, Jennifer of Jacksboro, Texas and Danny Keith Ballenger and wife, Patricia of Princeton, Texas; sister, June Laure of Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, Edward M. Ballenger, III, Joshua Ballenger, Derek Ballenger, Shelby Ballenger, Angelica Ballenger Angstadt, Andrew Bushey, Sarah K. Ballenger, and Stephanie Ballenger; numerous great-grandchildren; and a host of other loving family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four brothers, and three sisters.
The family will receive friends during a visitation on Friday afternoon, October 2, 2026 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. Following the visitation a procession will make its way to Ridgeview Memorial Park for a committal service.
