Joane Annette Wallace McCann

Joane Annette Wallace McCann, a longtime resident of Plano, Texas, passed away November 30, 2021 at the age of 78. She was born on August 30, 1943 to Robert Lee Wallace, Sr. and Mildred (Berg) Wallace in Houston, Texas. She spent her childhood in Houston and Richmond, Texas, graduating in 1961 from Lamar Consolidated High School in Rosenberg, Texas.

After high school, Joane studied education, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree from Sam Houston State University in 1964. It was while attending Sam Houston State where she met Roy McCann. Joane and Roy were married on September 7, 1963 in Richmond, Texas. After graduation, they moved to Waco, Texas where they both taught high school.

Joane moved home to Richmond when Roy joined the Navy in 1966. She worked as a teacher at several local elementary, middle, and high schools while he was overseas. Upon Roy’s discharge from the Navy, Joane and Roy initially settled in Irving, Texas in 1968. They then moved to their home in Plano, Texas in 1975 where they raised their family.  Joane was of the Methodist faith and a longtime member of Custer Road United Methodist Church in Plano.

Joane was a homemaker until deciding to return to work in 1984. She worked as an administrative assistant for the Collin County Appraisal District for twenty years. After retiring, Joane and Roy spent most of their time enjoying their lake house on Lake Cypress Springs in East Texas. She loved to work in the yard, read, entertain friends and family, and spend time with her many dogs.

Joane is survived by her daughter, Sheri Headrick and husband, Kevin; sons, Jeff McCann and Brett McCann and wife, Melissa, all of Frisco, Texas; grandsons, Connor Headrick of San Francisco, California, Cash McCann, and Luke McCann, both of Frisco, Texas; granddaughters, Avery Headrick, Alyssa McCann, Lola McCann, and AnneMarie Spyropoulos, all of Frisco, Texas; and a host other loving family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy McCann, an infant daughter Julie and her parents. 

A funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at Berkshire Chapel, 9073 Berkshire Drive, Frisco, Texas 75033. In memoriam, the family asks that Joane be honored with donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or Friday NITE Friends at Custer Road United Methodist Church.
