Joan Carey Tackel of McKinney, Texas died from complications of diabetes on April 29, 2020. A Dallas native, she was born on May 4th 1950. She was diagnosed with diabetes which she struggled from and managed from the age of 14 to the end of her earthly life.
Joan attended Catholic elementary and middle school and graduated from Ursuline Academy of Dallas. She held a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Joan served as a Registered Nurse in a caring and supervisory capacity in Dallas area Hospitals and Medical facilities.
Joan was a member of St Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Community of McKinney where she was an active volunteer and a dedicated worshiper. Joan was inquisitive and reflective in her spiritual and civic life. She was also a champion of the rights and responsibilities of and for the mentally ill.
Joan was preceded in death by parents, James and Elizabeth Crouch and brother, James Crouch, Jr. She is survived by her loving spouse, Julie Kunz of McKinney, Texas; daughter, Tara Rice and husband Grant; and grandsons, Collin Rice, Hayden Rice, and Owen Rice of McKinney, Texas; sister, Carol Pelch and Phillip Pelch of Houston, Texas.
