Joan Renee Barney

Joan Renee (Burton) Barney of Naples, Florida passed away on September 8, 2019 at the age of 54.  She was born on February 4, 1965 to Charles Denver and Sharon Winona (Owens) Burton in Stanford, Kentucky.  Growing up, Joan cherished spending time at the Cedar Rapids Country Club as a member of the swim team. She was the first to ever graduate early from Rockcastle County High School in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky with the class of 1982, despite identifying with the class of 1983.  She attended college at Eastern Kentucky University where she majored in Microbiology, graduating with her Bachelor’s Degree in 1987.  Soon after, Joan went to work in a lab for Biocon and was instrumental in developing an alternative to cancer causing red dye #3.  Her passion, however, was cooking and she became an accomplished chef, graduating with a degree in Culinary Arts from Sullivan University in 2011. She deeply loved her family, spending time at the beach, and the University of Kentucky Wildcats Men’s Basketball Team.  Joan also home-schooled her two sons, Chase and Chancellor. She was of the Christian faith.

Joan is survived by her sons, Chase Barney and wife, Hannah of Fayetteville, Arkansas and Chancellor Barney of Naples, Florida; sister, Lynne Clifton and husband, Kevin of McKinney, Texas; niece, Embry Maynard and husband, Tyrel of Liberty Hill, Texas; nephew, Blake Clifton of Los Angeles, California; great-nephew, Toren Maynard; and numerous other loving family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas.  Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen.  The family will receive friends during a visitation on Friday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
