After suffering the debilitating loss of all her left-side vision in September 2021 due to glioblastoma brain cancer, Joan Marie Schaub succumbed to the disease’s final effects on December 3, 2022.
Joan was born on May 1, 1943, in Queens, NY, the second child of Frank A. Rossini and Anne C. (Danahy) Rossini, and was raised in St. Andrew Avellino Catholic Parish in Flushing, NY. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Manhasset, L.I., NY and Elizabeth Seton College in Yonkers, NY, after which she worked for IBM at its corporate headquarters in NYC and Armonk, NY. After she and her first husband, Clarence E. (Chick) Roper were married in 1965 at St. Andrew’s, they lived for five years in Stamford and Norwalk. CT and in 1970 moved to Thiells, Haverstraw, Rockland County, NY where they made their home for 30 years and raised their four children in St. Gregory Barbarigo Parish. Joan earned her BS Degree in Organizational Management for Nyack College in Rockland County, NY and her paralegal Certification from RCC in Suffern, NY. Joan was an active participant in her community and parishes, serving in the choirs, as Lector, Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, in homebound, hospital and nursing home ministries, church bulletin editor, Stewardship Chair, Finance Chair for a rebuilding campaign. She was also actively involved in many community organizations, including the Haverstraw Little League, the Rose Memorial Public Library Board and as a Trustee for 15 years on the Haverstraw/Stony Point Central School District Board of Education, serving also as President and Vice-President, the League of Women Voters, and her local homeowners civic association. Before retiring, Joan worked for 15 years as a paralegal for law firms in Rockland County, with emphasis in several aspects of both commercial and real estate law.
In 2007, Joan made the move to Frisco, TX, where she met her second husband, James W. Schaub, while serving in ministries at Holy Cross parish, The Colony, TX; they married at Holy Cross in 2011 and in more recent years they have served together actively and happily in ministries at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Frisco, TX, including being Vincentian Advocates with the St. Vincent de Paul Society where they have received a great outpouring of love, prayers and strength from neighbors and fellow parishioners.
Joan is survived by her loving husband, James. W. Schaub; her four children, Clarence E. (ED) Roper and his wife Christine (Persico) of Pomona, NY; Elizabeth A. Roper of Montvale, NJ, Philip G. Roper and his wife Cindy (Salinas) of Anna, TX, and John P. Roper and his wife Katrina (Kappel) of Mesa, AZ; four step-children Audrey A. Arent and her husband Herman of The Colony, TX, Andrew J. Schaub and his wife Tamra (Sanders) of Forest, MS, Alan R. Schaub of Frisco, TX, Angela Westbrook and her husband Timothy of Kaufman, TX; fourteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; her three siblings, Carolyn Ryder of Oneonta, NY, Francis X. Rossini and his wife Lynn (Nakamura) of Eugene, OR, and Miriam Kroeger and her husband Michael of Phoenix, AZ.
Joan was predeceased in her death by her first husband Clarence E. (Chick) Roper (1993), her mother Anne C. (Danahy) Rossini (1995) her father, Frank A. Rossini (1997), and her parents-in-law, Clarence L. and Mary E. (Butler) Roper and Richard and Lottie (Ransom) Schaub, several aunts and uncles, sisters and brothers-in-law, one niece and three nephews.
Family and friends are invited to a Visitation at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 8520 Main Street, Frisco, Texas 75033, on Sunday, December 11, 2022, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM with a Rosary beginning at 3:30 PM. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 8000 Eldorado Parkway, Frisco, Texas 75033, on Monday, December 12, 2022, beginning at 11:00 AM. Interment will be held at DFW National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211, on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, beginning at 10:30 AM.
