Joan Hurt

February 5, 1938 - October 6, 2018

Joan Hurt of McKinney, Texas passed away October 6, 2018 at the age of 80.  She was born February 5, 1938 to Anthony Cashmer and Margaret (Rittenhouse) Cashmer in Trenton, New Jersey.  Joan married John Ronald Hurt on October 20, 1956 in Shreveport, Louisiana. She was a devoted homemaker to her husband and children.

Thorough out her life, Joan displayed great strength and the ability to not only survive but adjust with grace to all of the challenges and loss that came her way.  She was highly intelligent, had a mind for numbers and the ability organize things with ease.  Her laugh and wit, even in her last months, was contagious.  Joan loved playing games whether that was Mahjong, Booray or Bunco with her friends and placing imaginary bets on the greyhound races.  She was especially resourceful and creative and could repurpose almost anything with a fresh coat of paint.  Joan loved to be with people and always had a circle of friends that meant the world to her.  Most of all, she loved her husband, kids, grandchildren and great grandchildren by serving them and by giving them a place in which they could thrive.

Joan is survived by her daughter, Donna Marie Williams of Shreveport, Louisiana; sons, Steve Hurt and wife, Vonda of McKinney, Texas and Mike Hurt and wife, Kristi of Victoria, Texas; grandchildren, Jamie Spitale, Jordan Hurt, Cody Hurt, Nickolas Hurt, Leah Hurt, and Rebekah Hurt; great-grandchildren, Emma Spitale and Elliana Spitale; and sister, Virginia Herrmann.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Ronald Hurt and son, David Wayne Hurt.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 8, 2018 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. Interment will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038
