Joanna Josephine (Jo) Cloud Whitt of McKinney, Texas passed away surrounded by her family and friends on March 11, 2022. Jo was born March 29, 1935, in New Deal, Texas, to Floyd and Razzie (Threet) Cloud. She was raised in West Texas with six siblings, and maintained close bonds throughout her life with her brothers, sisters and her large extended family of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Jo married Bill Whitt on May 28, 1954 in Clovis, New Mexico, and raised her young family as Bill served in the U.S. Air Force on three continents. Their assignments took the family from sea to shining sea (Maine to California) and many points in-between, as well as Great Britain. Jo made life long friends at every stop.
After Bill retired from the Air Force and the family settled in Lubbock, Texas, Jo resumed her career, working for over twenty years in a variety of technical operations roles at Southwestern Bell/AT&T. Jo and Bill moved to North Texas in 1998 to be closer to their daughters and grandchildren, where they were loving, supportive and doting grandparents, devoted friends and neighbors, and active members of Rhea’s Mill Baptist Church. She maintained her wonderful wit and playfulness throughout her eighty-six years, referring to family, friends, and co-workers as “Hon”.
Jo is survived by her daughter, Karen Whitt and her wife Molly Zeigler; daughter Kelly Friedman and her husband Rob Friedman, all of Dallas; grandsons, Matt Friedman of Austin, and Will Friedman (her “Main Man”), of Dallas; special niece Shana Cloud and grandniece Razzie Cloud of Fayetteville, North Carolina, and numerous other loving family and friends. Jo was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-five years, Bill, their son, Michael and her parents and siblings.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 19, 2022, at Resthaven Memorial Park in Lubbock, Texas.
