Jo W. Golden, 86, passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 23, 2009, in Columbus, Georgia. A burial service will be held Monday, December 28, at 2:00 p.m., at Burns Cemetery in Trenton, Texas. The family will be at the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow funeral home in Trenton for visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m., Monday. Born January 18, 1923, in Trenton, Texas, she was the daughter of Benjamin Earnest and Pearl Mitchell Spangler. She graduated with honors from Trenton High School and from nursing school in Sherman, Texas. Before retiring in 1972, she was a Head Nurse at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Bonham, Texas. Following retirement, she did volunteer service at the Whitewright Nursing Home for many years. She was a devoted wife and mother. She married Joseph Tyler (J.T.) Golden II in 1948. She was a dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church of Trenton, where for many years she was the teacher of the Couples’ Sunday School Class and served on numerous committees. She served as a member of the Trenton Independent School District Board during the 1960s, only the second woman to have held that post at that time. Her warmth, wit and intelligence will be greatly missed by all who knew her, especially her many friends at Covenant Woods Retirement Village, where she happily spend the last 15 years of her life. She is survived by a son, Joseph Golden, of Columbus, Georgia; a step-grandson, Robert Golden, and his family; her dear cousin, Jane Rigsby and husband Walter; and a host of other cousins.
