Jimmie Kent Smith of Sherman, Texas, passed away on March 29, 2017 at his home. He was born on October 16, 1943 to Samuel Elijah and Julie Margaret Weidenkofer Smith in Kirksville, Missouri. Jimmie was a graduate 1962 of Kirksville High School. He served his nation in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1965.

Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents; and all of his siblings, Dale Smith, Leon Smith, Leon Smith, Vernon Smith, Daisey Smith, Jeanette Smith Fast, Betty Smith Goring, and Lola Smith Kehrer. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Smith of Sherman, Texas; son, Shane Leon Smith and Amy of O’Fallon, Missouri; stepsons, Michael Preece and Kathy of Sherman, Texas, and Allen Preece of Austin, Texas; 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews, Julie Fast, Bill Goring, David Kehrer, Judy Kehrer Alexander, Mike Smith, Pam Smith Burke and Sam Smith.

A Memorial Graveside Service will be scheduled this summer at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Dallas, Texas.
