Jimmie Eugene Harper

Jimmie “Gene” Eugene Harper of McKinney, Texas passed January 18, 2019 at the age of 88.  He was born on December 7, 1930 to Lee Wilson Harper and Clara Leo (Davis) Harper in Reinhardt, Texas, a community near White Rock Lake.  Gene attended grade school and middle school in Reinhardt.  He was a 1947 graduate of Garland High School in Garland, Texas.  Gene began working summers at G. W. Cullum Construction Company while in high school.   After graduation, he continued working for G. W. Cullum Construction for the next 40 years where he retired as Equipment Superintendent and Vice-President.  Gene married Norma Jean Worley on December 26, 1980 in McKinney, Texas.  He was a rancher and farmer plus woodworker who delighted in building furniture.  Gene enjoyed traveling across the country in his RV.  He loved to help Jean tend their yards in Whitesboro and lend a hand to his neighbors.   Gene was a member of First Baptist Church in Whitesboro, Texas.

Gene is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Norma Jean Harper of McKinney, Texas; children, Sharon Dees and husband, Robert, Curtis Cady and wife, Sandy, Larry Harper , Carla White and husband, Kevin and Jill Darland and husband, Kevin; grandchildren, Mike Dees, Katie Full and husband, Carson, Alex Harper, Madelyn Harper, John White and wife, Misty, Emily White, Cari White, Brian Keathley and wife, Claire, Jacob Darland and wife, Brittany and Caleb Darland; eleven great-grandchildren; and many nephews, nieces, and friends.

He was preceded by his parents, Lee and Clara Harper; first wife, Maxine “Billie” (Prince) Harper; daughter, Brenda Harper; granddaughter, Stacey Keathley;  brothers, Art Harper, Edwin Harper, and Dub Wilson Harper; and sisters, Geraldine Little and Merle Ragsdale.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel, 2525, Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.  Interment is to follow in Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen.  Family and friends are invited to the funeral home at their convenience on Monday to pay their respects and to sign the register book.
