Jewell Mae (Grissom) Clay of Garland, Texas passed away on May 23, 2018 at the age of 95. She was born on October 12, 1922 to William Andrew and Beulah (Monk) Grissom in Lamar County, Texas. Jewell married Bedford Fountain Clay on November 18, 1939 in McKinney, Texas. She was an egg candler in WWII in a local coop making egg powder. Jewell was also an elevator operator at Mercantile National Bank in Dallas and also worked with her daughter in a donut shop.
Jewell is survived by her daughter, Sandra Sue Clay of Garland, Texas; her daughter-in-law, Peggy Clay of Holly Lake, Texas; five grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren; and numerous other loving family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bedford F. Clay; her son, Dennis Clay; two brothers; and three sisters.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 31, 2018 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. Interment will follow at Pecan Grove Cemetery, 1701 S. McDonald St., McKinney, Texas 75069. The family will receive friends during a visitation one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
