Jerry Craig Lewis of McKinney, Texas passed away July 9, 2022 at the age of 75 in Dallas, Texas. He was born on October 9, 1946 to Sam B. Lewis and Oresa (Jones) Lewis in Dallas, Texas. In 1965, Jerry graduated from Monahans High School in Monahans, Texas, where he excelled at football, track, played coronet and trumpet in the band, and made some dear, life-long friends. He worked in the oil fields of West Texas to support his way through West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas. Before graduating with a degree in business from West Texas State, he served as Commander of the ROTC unit, Chief Justice of the Student Supreme Court, and Secretary of his fraternity. After graduating from The University of Texas School of Law in Austin, Texas in 1973, Jerry proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, Judge Advocate General Corp. He worked for the Collin County District Attorney’s office, rising to First Assistant District Attorney and Head Prosecutor. In 1985, Jerry became Judge of County Court at Law 2, and retired from the bench in 2006. Jerry helped give rise to the McKinney Soccer Association, served as President for several years, and contributed to the efforts to start the soccer program at McKinney High School. He was a member of First Baptist Church in McKinney, Texas. Jerry is an Eagle Scout, and he proudly and tirelessly served as Scoutmaster of Troop 303 in McKinney, Texas. He was nominated and presented the Silver Beaver award from Circle 10 Council, the highest award an adult can achieve in scouting.
Jerry is survived by his son, David Lewis and wife, Anne of Bradenton, Florida, his niece, Karen Miller and husband, Mike of Granbury, Texas, and niece Wanda Cox of Granbury, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Oresa Lewis and his brother, Sam Lewis.
A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 15, 2022 at First United Methodist Church, 315 North Church Street, McKinney, Texas 75069. The service will also be live streamed at First United Methodis by clicking on the following link https://video.ibm.com/channel/UL8Cw3XVMtZ. Following the service, the family receive friends and guests for a brief reception at the church.
The family will receive family and friends during a visitation on Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.
