Jerry Keith Thompson of McKinney, Texas passed away February 12, 2018 at the age of 68. He was born March 1, 1949 to Bernard Thompson and Virginia Ruth (Matsel) Thompson in Gibson County, Indiana. Jerry married Kari Ann Harvey on March 4, 1995 in McKinney, Texas. He served his country proudly as a Sergeant in the United States Army during the Vietnam War with the 1st Infantry the Big Red One.
Jerry was a graduate of Purdue University where he earned a bachelor in food science. He worked for Southwest Ice Cream Specialties and Food Source where he retired in McKinney.
Jerry was an avid outdoorsman whose best days were spent out on the lake fishing with his wife or his buddies. His other passions included gardening, cooking and spending time with his friends and family. He was especially proud of his granddaughter Shelby McLaughlin, who races slingshot cars and recently was the first girl to win the Slingshot Jr. Nationals title.
Jerry is survived by his wife Kari of McKinney, Texas; daughter, Stacey McLaughlin and husband Michael of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania; son, Bradley Thompson and wife Yvette of Princeton, New Jersey; granddaughter, Shelby McLaughlin; brothers, Dan Thompson and wife Brenda of Greenwood, Indiana and Tim Thompson and wife Carla of Owensville, Indiana; sister, Jennifer Robinson and husband Jim also of Owensville; numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives; and his beloved boxer, Roxie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Ruth Thompson.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 23, 2018 at First Christian Church, 1800 West Hunt Street, McKinney, Texas 75069. An additional memorial service will be held in Owensville, Indiana on March 31, 2018.
