Jeremy “Jerry” Catabijan, age 64, of McKinney, Texas, passed away on December 19, 2022. He was born on November 2, 1958, in Long Beach, California, to Elizabeth (Olarte) and Peter C. Catabijan
Jerry was a gentle soul who held family close to his heart and enjoyed spending time with them. As a young adult he discovered his passion for baking and turned that into a lifelong career as a chef and pastry chef. His career took him to small towns and large cities where he found work as a baker in markets, bakeries, and restaurants. In his search for that perfect place to live, Jerry along with his partner Steve found themselves in Martha’s Vineyard, where they were able to enjoy small town life next to the ocean. It was in the Vineyard that Jerry worked at his all-time favorite job, as a baker at the Black Dog Bakery. After several years in the Vineyard, Jerry moved to Las Vegas, where he became a pastry chef at Smith and Wollensky Steakhouse. In 2017 Jerry moved to North Dallas where he continued to work as a baker/pastry chef at Whole Foods, Central Market, and most recently Tom Thumb. In his spare time Jerry loved decorating cakes for family and friends. All of his baked treats will be dearly missed by his family.
Jerry is survived by his three sisters, Lorna Calvin and her husband, Boyd, Pat Catabijan, and Karen Catabijan; his nephew, Marc Monge; two nieces, Jessica Contreras and Marianne Calvin; his great-nephew, Samuel Contreras; his great-niece, Abigail Contreras. Also surviving are his three closest companions, his dogs Baxter and Henry and his cat Max.
Jerry was preceded in death by his partner, Steve Van Gorp; his parents, Elizabeth and Peter Catabijan; and his brother, Rodney Catabijan.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. Michael the Archangel, 411 Paula Road, McKinney, Texas 75069, on Thursday, January 5, 2023, at 1:00 p.m.
