Jeronimo “Jerry” Mendez of Oak Cliff, Texas passed away on November 27, 2020 at the age of 70. He was born on November 27, 1950 to Juan Villareal Mendez and Isabel Alcala Mendez in Dallas, Texas. Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Army as a chef during the Vietnam War. He coached little league baseball for eight years which he loved very much. He was a steak line department supervisor and quality control leader for over 34 years with Winn Meat. He made an impact on many people’s lives with food, love, baseball, and support. He never missed a moment to host family gatherings in his home. He was a loving father, brother, tio, and friend. There was never a moment he did not put family first. He was greatly loved, and the absence of his presence will be profound.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Juan Villareal Mendez and Isabel Alcala Torres; and sister, Dorothy “Rosa” Fay Alcala; brother, Juan “Corky” Jose Mendez.
He is survived by his daughter, Nicole Mendez Alvarado and son-in-law, Otoniel Alvarado of Princeton, Texas; grandchildren, Brian Alvarado, Marque Alvarado, and Samantha Alvarado; siblings, Juanita Paredes, Jesusita “Mary” Mendez, Pauline Galaviz, Anita “Annie” Sanchez, Linda T. Velo, Brenda Torres, and Antonio Torres Jr.; and nephews Martin and Michael Torres who he helped raise and loved very much; as well as many other nephews, nieces, and cousins from the Mendez, Alcala, and Torres families.
A “come and go” visitation will be held on Thursday, December 3, 2020, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home. Only a limited number of guests will be allowed to enter the funeral home facility at any one time to maintain social distancing.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 4, 2020, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas. Following the funeral service, a procession will make its way to Ridgeview Memorial Park for our committal service where all are invited to attend.
