IN LOVING MEMORY

Jeffrey Cater Steel

Sep 04 1961 - Feb 09 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jeff Steel, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, who peacefully departed this life on February 9, 2024, at the age of 62. Jeff was born on September 4, 1961, to Harry V. Steel, Jr. and Louisa Cater in San Antonio, Texas.

Jeff's journey through life was marked by an insatiable curiosity, an unwavering passion for adventure, and an unyielding love for his family. He graduated from MacArthur High School in San Antonio, Texas, and went on to earn his bachelor's degree from the University of Texas in Austin. His career in the high-tech industry, most recently at HP, was distinguished by his dedication, innovation and love for technology.

On October 15, 2000, Jeff embarked on a new chapter of love and companionship when he married Cookie Lehman in Dallas, Texas. Their union is a testament to Jeff's capacity for deep and abiding love.

Jeff found immense joy in witnessing his daughter's accomplishments, particularly in her pursuits on the tennis court and in academics. Family was paramount to Jeff, and he cherished every moment spent together, including those shared with his loyal canine companion, Hercules, whom he secretly adored.

Traveling was one of Jeff's greatest passions, perhaps ignited by his solo year-long odyssey around the world after college graduation. Whether capturing moments through his lens, exploring new landscapes on his bike, watching a Longhorn football game, or enjoying an eclectic array of music genres (with his favorite song being "Who Let the Dogs Out"), Jeff approached life with boundless enthusiasm.

His infectious laughter, warm smile, and genuine kindness endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him. Jeff had a special knack for being an uncle, delighting in entertaining his nieces and nephews.

Jeff's legacy of love, laughter, and adventure will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to share in his life's journey. Though he may no longer walk beside us, his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us in the days ahead.

He is survived by his wife, Cookie Steel of Prosper, Texas; daughter, Nicole Steel of Prosper, Texas; mom, Louisa Steel of San Antonio, Texas; sister, Rebecca Marx and husband, Bob of Clarksville, Tennessee; brother, Harry Van Steel, III of Thailand; sister, Stephanie Steel; brother, Richard Steel and wife, Carol of Westcliffe, Colorado; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Brenda and Roger Knapp of Plano; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mark and Mandy Lehman of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a plethora of nieces and nephews; and mother-in-law, Sandy Lehman and her significant other Bailey Mayo of Lubbock, Texas. Jeff is preceded in death by his father, Harry V. Steel, Jr.

A memorial graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 19, 2024 at Ridgeview Memorial Park, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society, in lieu of flowers.
