IN LOVING MEMORY

Jean Beverly

Jul 14 1933 - Apr 21 2020

Jean Beverly of McKinney, Texas passed away on April 21, 2020 in McKinney, Texas at the age of 86. She was born on July 14, 1933 in Bloomfield, New Jersey to Efford and Ethel Schaffer. Her earliest memories were playing in the snow with her older brothers, Harry and Kenneth.  Her parents wanted to live in the country, so they moved to Bayside, Long Island in 1936.  She had three brothers and a sister; Harry, Kenneth, Clifford, and Ann.  Jean was very proud of her Swedish heritage. Her favorite recipes to make were Swedish sugar cookies and Swedish pancakes.

Jean was a graduate of New York University. At NYU she met the love of her life, Bill Beverly.  Jean and Bill were married on February 9, 1957 at the Church on The Hill in Flushing New York and celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary this year.  Jean and Bill had two sons, William Jr. and Harry.

In 1964 the family moved to Matawan, New Jersey. Jean became a wonderful homemaker, was actively involved with her sons’ school activities, and she was a den mother for their Cub Scouts’ troop.   Jean and Bill were very active in the community and helped to establish Calvary Baptist Church in Matawan.  Jean worked for Franklin State Bank of New Jersey, beginning as a bank teller, becoming a branch manager, and was awarded the title of Assistant Vice President.  She loved to collect Byers Choice Caroler dolls and display them all year long. Her hobbies included painting, crocheting and knitting.
In 1995, Jean and Bill retired to McKinney, Texas to be close to their grandchildren.  Jean and Bill were active members at First Baptist Church, McKinney. She worked for many years in the First Baptist Church library, where children and families loved to come visit her.  She also served for many years teaching English as a second language, developing long lasting relationships through this ministry.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents, Efford and Ethel Schaffer, her brothers Harry Schaffer, Kenneth Schaffer, Clifford Schaffer and her sister, Ann Schaffer, and her beloved husband, William Beverly.  Jean is survived by her son William Beverly Jr. of McKinney; son Harry Beverly and his wife Laura of McKinney; two grandchildren, Kristen Beverly of Dallas, and Kyle Beverly and his wife Paige of Edmond, Oklahoma.

Interment will be at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
