Jean Ellen (Kocurek) Funk of Plano, Texas passed away on May 27, 2022, at the age of 71. She was born on September 30, 1950, to Charles Harvey Kocurek, Jr and Helen Bertha Elizabeth (Schlosser) Kocurek in Oak Park, Illinois. Jean graduated with the class of 1968 from Downers Grove North High School. After graduation, she went to work at Factory Mutual Insurance Company, first as a secretary and then a fire protection engineer. It was there that she met her husband, Carl Funk Jr. They were married on January 15, 1982, in Downers Grove, Illinois. They moved to Redwood City, California in 1986 and then to Plano, Texas in 1995. Her favorite hobbies included genealogy, music and crafts. She served as Choir Director of the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Streamwood, IL from 1984-1986. After moving to Texas, she was a founding member of the Genealogy Friends of Plano Libraries. She remained active as a board member, holding various positions over the years. She was also very involved at her church, First Baptist Church of Allen, as well as at Grand Brook Memory Care of Allen.
She is survived by her husband, Carl John Funk, Jr. of Allen, Texas; step-children, Jennifer A. Sloan and husband, Shawn of Anna, Texas, Pamela E. Funk of Anna, Texas, and Daniel C. Funk and wife, Cassandra of Mount Prospect, Illinois; grandchildren, Shawn, Jackson, Lexi, Luke, Mason, and Nolan; sister, Patricia Zunica and husband, Tom of Indianapolis; brother, Lawrence Korecuk of Plano, Texas; nieces, Elizabeth, Anna, Christina; and numerous other loving family and friends.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 3, 2022 at First Baptist Church of Allen, 201 E McDermott Drive, Allen, TX 75002.
In lieu of flowers, Jean has asked that donations be made to First Baptist Church of Allen, Texas.
