IN LOVING MEMORY

Janie Sandvig

May 22 1954 - Feb 13 2019

Janie Sandvig, age 64, of McKinney, Texas, passed away and went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, February 13, 2019.  Janie was born in 1954 in McAllen, Texas, to the late Edward and Leita (McLeod) Fosmire. She graduated from McAllen High School in 1972. After high school, she continued her education, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and a Masters of Arts in Library Science from Pan American University. After graduation, Janie followed in her mother's footsteps, working as a teacher and a school librarian at multiple schools including: Fields Elementary, Thigpen Elementary, Memorial High School, and South Texas College. Through her work, she fostered a love of reading with her students and developed deep lifetime friendships with fellow librarians and educators.  While in college, Janie met and married her husband, Larry Sandvig and they had two daughters. Janie and Larry were married for 38 years.  They called McAllen home and were members of Calvary Baptist Church until Larry's passing in 2013, at which time Janie moved to McKinney, Texas, to be closer to family. Anyone who knew Janie knew that she was thoroughly enjoying her retirement, taking pleasure in the small things like getting her face sugared, hair and eyelashes done, and nails decorated. Never content to sit at home, she thrived on meeting new people, getting involved in Delta Kappa Gamma (the professional society for women educators), Lone Star Business Builders, water aerobics, and The Heights Baptist Church. Janie lived for her Lord and for her family. She loved her role as a sister and mother, and absolutely cherished her role as "Grandmama" to her four grandchildren: Avery, Ethan, Harper, and Hannah. Janie spent the last few years making life-long memories with her family, taking trips and having adventures.

She is survived by daughter, Jessica Widmer and husband, Matthew; daughter, Kerry; brother, Mac Fosmire and wife, Christine; and four beloved grandchildren. Janie was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

The family would like to thank their friends, extended family, and clergy from The Heights Baptist Church for their kind and loving support during this difficult time.

A celebration of life service has been scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 26, 2019, at The Heights Baptist Church in Richardson, Texas.

The family suggests that donations be made to The Humane Society of North Texas, The Family Resource Library at Children's Medical Center Dallas, or MD Anderson Cancer Center.
