Janice "Jan" Leona Brevig

Sep 20 1938 - Jun 23 2021

Janice “Jan” Leona Brevig of Allen, Texas, passed away on June 23, 2021, at the age of 82. She was surrounded by those that loved her very much.

Jan was born on September 20, 1938, to Lawrence and Ethel (Holten) Aase in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. Janice graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls and earned an associate degree at the Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Jan stayed home to raise her kids but also worked as a nurse, owned a clothing store called Jan’s Bargain Rack, and worked for many years at the University of Texas at Dallas as a secretary to the Dean of Arts. Mostly, she was a devoted and proud mother who attended all baseball and soccer games and many dance recitals.

On June 28, 1958, she married Quinton Brevig in Thief River Falls. Quint and Jan created a beautiful family and life together traveling from Minnesota to South Dakota to Oklahoma and then eventually landing in Texas adding to the family every stop of the way. Quint and Jan retired in 1991 and moved to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas where they lived before Quint’s passing in 2008. They enjoyed living on the lake, golfing and spending time with new friends. Jan moved back to Texas in 2011 to be close to family.

In her retirement, Jan was an avid reader, attending a monthly book club, bible study, played in several bridge groups, enjoyed gardening, and even loved playing the slot machines. She attended and volunteered at her church regularly, volunteered at the food pantry, enjoyed cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, and attended many events for her grandkids. Jan loved to travel with her family and friends. Most recently, she visited her father’s hometown and his family farm in Norway. Her favorite trips were with her childhood friends where the girls would visit cities around the United States and recreate their famous picture on a set of stairs.

Jan is survived by her children, Steven Brevig of Allen, Texas, Thomas Brevig and wife, Shanin of Allen, Texas, Nancy Ray of Plano, Texas, Amy Moore and husband, Gary of Plano, Texas; 12 grandchildren, Stephanie Brevig, Jessica Brevig (Kelly Cogan), Lindsey Brevig, Nicholas Brevig, Haylie Brevig, Chase Turner, Austin Turner, Corey Ray (Monique Ray), William Moore, Caige Ray (Deanna Ray), Emma Moore and Matthew Moore; 3 great-grandchildren, Charlotte Simnacher, Nash Cogan and Eliza Ray.
