IN LOVING MEMORY

Janice Mary Sigurdson Boobar

Feb 07 1936 - Jan 09 2020

Janice Boobar of Plano, Texas, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, Texas, died peacefully at her home surrounded by family and with her husband reading Bible passages to her on Thursday morning, January 9, 2020. She was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on February 7, 1936.

She met the love of her life at the age of 14. At 17, Jan crossed state lines with the help of the groom’s family to elope and marry David Boobar on May 2, 1953. Her passion in life was to be a mother and housewife. In addition to an amazing mother to four, she was an incredible grandmother to nine, and great-grandmother to five.

Besides being a dedicated homemaker, Jan also helped her husband run their small businesses in Mt. Pleasant in the 1970’s and 1980’s. Following retirement, they travelled extensively both domestic and internationally. They travelled to all 50 U.S. states and 10 Canadian provinces. One of their favorite international trips was a family trip to Iceland to meet Jan’s relatives and visit their farms. As thousands of people will attest, she loved to write letters and send birthday cards and continued this tradition even through her illness. Until recently, she was very involved at their church, Highland Park Baptist, and loved to serve behind the scenes. Jan also had a heart to serve her local community through charities and various organizations.

Jan was a woman of deep faith. Even though she wasn’t a minister by profession, she was called by God and ministered to many. She never met a stranger and God used her friendly and caring nature as well as her servant’s heart to bless and encourage everyone with whom she came in contact.

Jan is survived by David Boobar, her husband of 66 years, her daughter and three sons: Cindy and Dwayne Rosewell of Grapevine, Texas; Bruce and Mary Ruth Boobar of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; Mark and Cathy Boobar of Kilgore, Texas; and Tim Boobar of Plano, Texas. Other survivors include her nine grandchildren: Michelle Rosewell, Megan Rosewell, Matthew Boobar, Kenneth Boobar, Bradley Boobar, Rebecca Boobar, Kimberley Perez-Newman, Tiffany Stahl, and Carly Shrauner; and five great-grandchildren: Alexis, Taylor, Ethan, Trinity, and Spencer. She is also survived by her loving sister and brother: Barbara Sigurdson of Plymouth, Minnesota and Larry and Robyn Sigurdson of Punta Gorda, Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Marian Sigurdson, and her daughter-in-law, Kathy Staples Boobar.

A visitation will be held at Highland Park Baptist Church, 2801 S. Jefferson Avenue, Mt. Pleasant, Texas on Saturday, January 25,2020 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. The family would like to acknowledge and thank everyone for their prayers and support during her final days.

Memorial contributions may be made in Jan’s honor to the Dallas Arboretum, 8525 Garland Road, Dallas, Texas 75218 or www.DallasArboretum.org in memory of Janice Boobar to help the family create a memorial in her honor.
