On Tuesday, February 2, 2021 Janet Cogdell Norman passed away at the age of 72. Janet was born on February 13, 1948 in Shreveport, Louisiana, to the late Arthur and Ruth Cogdell.
Janet is a graduate of Northeast Louisiana University with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education.
After graduating NLU Janet taught music in the public school system of Shreveport. She then relocated to Texas where Janet continued to teach piano and voice lessons for many years. Over the course of her adult life Janet was the Music Director, Adult and Children’s Choir Director, Pianist, and Organist in many Methodist Churches across the Dallas Metroplex. Janet also worked as Contract Administrator for Dallas County Public Works for 27 years. After retiring from both Dallas County and the Methodist Church she volunteered in the church nursery rocking and singing to the babies.
Janet was a gifted Artist and inspired many with her music, paintings, crochet, cross stitch, quilts, crafts, flowers and stimulating conversation. She blessed us all with her gentle spirit, loving compassion and wit.
Janet is survived by her proudest accomplishments, her children Sarah Traver and David Norman.
Janet is also survived by daughter in law Lynette Norman. Grandchildren Joseph Ahern, Isaac Ahern, Lillie Ahern, Michael Williams, Katie Williams, Angel Williams, Alexandrea Jones, Louis Chouteau Jr, Anthony Loushin and Olivia Loushin. And Great-grandchildren Zoey, Kaylee, Liam, Jonah and Zeke.
As the eldest sibling and family Matriarch Janet passes the mantle of Love and Leadership on to her brother James Cogdell and sisters Beverly Cogdell, Betsy Cogdell and Sheryl Cogdell. Those privileged to call her family include numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Janet loved traveling and lived a life that magnified kindness and love for others. Services are to be determined on a future date.
Memorials may be made to the Special Olympics, a charity that was very close to Janet’s heart as she truly loved to see her grandchildren competing at their Events.
