Janet Martin, 85, of Plano, Texas, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family at her home on December 24, 2024.
The only child of Thomas and Frances Lowrey, she was born in Sherman, Texas, on October 14, 1939. Janet grew up in Gunter, Texas. She was valedictorian of her high school class. She attended Abilene Christian College and North Texas State College earning an undergraduate degree in Education. Later, her master’s degree in Secondary Education was earned from North Texas University. Janet was a member of the Alpha Phi sorority.
She met the love of her life, Troy, in first grade. They married on February 23, 1962. At the time of her death, they had known each other for 80 years and been married for almost 62 years.
Janet taught at Plano High School until her first child, Janna, was born in June of 1969. Her second child, Greg, was born in June of 1974. Once her children were older, Janet went into business for herself and was co-owner of a children’s clothing store for several years.
Janet loved spending time with family and friends. A life-long learner, she read constantly. She enjoyed traveling to new places. New York City was a favorite. Janet was an avid sports fan, closely following the Mavericks, Cowboys, and Rangers. She had an unwavering faith in God and was always active in her church.
Janet will be deeply missed by husband, Troy; daughter, Janna Higgins and husband, Shawn; son, Greg; her cousins, and many cherished friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Frances Lowrey.
A private family graveside service will be held at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas
