IN LOVING MEMORY

Janelle Giles

Oct 24 1935 - Jul 28 2023

Deloris Janelle Giles, of McKinney, Texas went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 28, 2023. Janelle was born on October 24, 1935 to William Leven Lawrence and Georgia Belle Brown Lawrence in Anna, Texas.

She grew up in Anna and graduated from Anna High School, Class of ’55, where she loved participating in cheerleading and basketball. Soon after, Janelle met her future husband, Sid, at the popular Steffey’s Jiffy Dog stand in McKinney, and started dating soon after. They married on September 26, 1958. Soon after, Sid and Janelle moved to Allen to raise their family.  It was in Allen, where Janelle devoted her time to her kids and volunteered at their school. That led to a job offer that began a 22-year career with Allen ISD. She held many positions including office aid, librarian and finally a P.E. assistant.  She was well loved and respected by the kids and teachers alike.

Janelle and Sid loved attending their children’s sporting events and going to Lake Texoma on the weekends and vacations. After Leann graduated from Allen High School in 1981, Janelle & Sid decided to move to the country where Sid grew up.  They built a house in Chambersville, Texas where they planned to retire. Janelle loved the view of the creek and “piddling” in her flower beds and garden while Sid kept up with the rest of the 16 acres and the cows.  This was their “Happy Place”.  In 1992, she lost her loving husband suddenly when he was only 53 years old.

In 1993, Janelle became “Gran”.  Spending time with her grandsons was always fun and exciting. She would take them around the property to explore nature.  She continued her love of sports by attending their games and cheering them on – she was their biggest supporter.

Janelle is survived by her daughter, Leann Giles McCown and husband Randy of McKinney, Texas; grandsons, Austin Sidney McCown of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Nathan Miles McCown of Chicago, Illinois.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Lynn Giles; son, Darren Lynn Giles, her six siblings, and her parents.
