Jane Penny Hooker of McKinney, Texas passed away on July 8, 2022 at the age of 85. She was born on January 4, 1937 to Fred L. Penny and Nona (Ashcraft) Penny in Malden, Missouri. Jane was all about her family. She and her husband Charlie (known to her as Win) were married 64 years. She was a dedicated and loving wife and mother, raising three kids. She loved her seven grandkids, as family was everything to her.
As the wife of an Air Force pilot, she figured out how to brave times apart with three children. She moved every 2-4 years; living in Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Nevada, Kansas, Nebraska, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Texas.
Jane played tennis for many years and then switched to playing golf. She collected a few trophies in both! This was the beginning of a gathering of special friends. She and her husband traveled the world, often golfing together and with friends. She played the piano and sang in the church choir. As a child, she began singing in her own church in Malden, Missouri. She ran and organized the accounting for the convenience store business that she and Charlie owned, which was no small task!
Jane graduated from University of Mississippi in 1954. She loved her sorority, Kappa Delta. An avid Ole Miss fan, we knew where to find her on a fall Saturday. She will certainly be tracking Egg Bowl scores in heaven! Sunday was dedicated to her beloved Cowboys. She often knew the stats and the latest news before anyone else.
Most importantly, was Jane’s faith in God. She loved her Albuquerque church, Hoffmantown and Cottonwood Creek Baptist Church in Allen, Texas. Here she developed some of her deepest friendships. She knew that she would someday join her parents in heaven. She raised her children with faith. She shared her love of Jesus until the end. And when she could no longer articulate the words, she quoted bible verses and had her own conversations with the Lord.
We will miss our wife, mother, and grandmother but we know angels were singing to welcome her to her heavenly home.
Jane is survived by her husband, Charles Hooker of McKinney, Texas; sons, Dave Hooker and wife, Traci of Las Cruces, New Mexico and Doug Hooker and wife, Lisa of Spring Branch, Texas; daughter, Holly Hanson and husband, Mark of Denver, Colorado; and 7 grandchildren, Ryan Hooker and wife, Annie, Austin Hooker, Jake Hooker, Hayley Hammonds, Meg Hammonds, Kylie Hanson and Sam Hanson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Nona Penny and her sister, Pat Mathews.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 18, 2022 at Cottonwood Creek Chapel, 1015 Sam Rayburn Tollway, Allen, TX 75013. Following the service, a procession will make its way to Ridgeview Memorial Park, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013 for a committal service.
