Jane Tilghman McCarley Velez, age 76, loving mother of two and adoring wife to husband Lester Velez, passed away in the morning on July 16th. Jane was born in 1946 in Louisville, Kentucky, the last of three daughters to Alice and John McCarley. She met her husband Lester in 1964 and they quickly became high school sweethearts. They were married in 1969 and enjoyed 52 wonderful years together. Over the years they lived in Pennsylvania, Connecticut, California, and Texas together. As a mother, she was generous, loving, and kind. She had a clever sense of humor that endured until the very end. The family was everything to Jane, and her grandchildren became the center of her world. After 32 years of working alongside Lester and her Godfather John Latimer in their Manufacturer Representative business, she retired and became an active member of the Allen Senior Recreation Center. She found joy in social events, dancing, and ceramics classes. Her passions were food and cooking, and she was the quintessential chef in her kitchen. Jane self-published a cookbook that she gifted to her family that will be treasured for generations to come. She will be greatly missed by her family and especially her two daughters, Sarah and Becky who adore her with all of their hearts. Goodbye to a wonderful woman and a beautiful mother. We will see you again.
Jane is survived by her husband, Lester; daughters, Becky and Sarah; sons-in-law, Bryan Armijo and Jason Wolf; sisters, Sarah Hans and Alice McCarley; grandchildren, Ella (14), Ava (10), Hunter (8), Kyra (17), Megan (11) and Max (9).
A celebration of life will be scheduled at a future date. In lieu of sending flowers, we request a donation be made to the Humane Society, a cause so dear to her heart.
