Jane Scalf Tabor of Canton, Texas passed away on July 26, 2022 at the age of 97. She was born on April 24, 1925 to George Edward Kennedy & Bertha Florence Kindle Kennedy in McKinney, Texas. Jane grew up in McKinney. In 1949 she married her high school sweetheart J. W. Scalf, better known as “Slats”, a name he picked up in the Army. They raised their family in Richardson, Texas and in 1995 retired to Lake Texoma. After Slats passed away Jane married Al Tabor in 2011. After Al’s passing in 2017, Jane went to live with her daughter in Canton, Texas.
Jane was the first person in her family to attend college, studying at Ranger Junior College in Ranger, Texas. She then went on to have an incredibly successful career in the insurance industry. 37 years of that time was spent at the same agency in Dallas.
Jane loved to entertain and host parties. When she cooked, she prepared to feed an army. She was especially proud of her brisket. At Christmas she was the one who always had extra gifts under the tree for unexpected guests.
She was also very involved in the Elks Lodge in both Richardson and Texoma and through the years made many lifelong friends.
She is survived by her son, Randy McDonald and wife, Carol-Ann of Georgetown, Texas; daughter, Penny Stapp and husband, John of Canton, Texas; granddaughter, Aerin West of Flower Mound, Texas; Great Grandchildren, Hunter West of Flower Mound, Texas, C.J. Stapp and Teagen Stapp of Canton, Texas and Taylor Baer of Aurora, Colorado.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband, J.W. (Slats) Scalf; son, J.W. (Buddy) Scalf, Jr.; husband, Al Tabor; and granddaughters Tandy McDonald Baer and Courtney Moffett.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 20, 2022 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas.
