Jan Phelps of Allen, Texas, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2025, at the age of 88.
She was born on April 8, 1937, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, Jan was the beloved daughter of William “Bill” Wylie Winter and Frieda (Zacharias) Winter. A lifelong learner, Jan placed great value on education, earning her master's degree and forging a successful career in the field of technology. She worked in IT Systems Implementation and Support at Texas Instruments in Dallas, Texas, where she was a respected professional until her retirement.
Jan’s life was one of service, compassion, and quiet strength. She gave generously of her time and talents as a volunteer puppy raiser with Canine Companions for Independence, helping to raise and socialize service dogs for individuals with disabilities. She was also an active supporter and volunteer with the Friends of the Allen Public Library, reflecting her lifelong love of learning and reading.
A woman of deep faith, Jan was a member of the Protestant church and lived her values through kindness, integrity, and devotion to those she loved. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend who offered wisdom, warmth, and unwavering support to her family and community.
Jan will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Jeffrey Phelps of Allen, Texas; son, Sidney “Sid” Daskam of Plano, Texas; daughter-in-law, Delana Daskam of Plano, Texas; sister, Sandra “Sandi” Champ of Roseville, California; brother-in-law, John Champ of Roseville, California; niece, Carrie Yarwood of Rocklin, California; and a host of other loving family and cherished friends.
Jan was preceded in death by her mother, Frieda Winter of Ukiah, California and father, Bill Winter of Lucerne, California.
A memorial graveside will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 16, 2025 at Pecan Grove Cemetery, 1701 South McDonald, McKinney, Texas, 75069.
