James Curtis Hemby

Mr. James Curtis Hemby of Farmersville, Texas passed away peacefully at his home Sunday morning surrounded by his wife and children after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease. Sam was born October 8, 1940 in Ladonia, Texas the son of Wayne and Ruth Rolan Hemby.

He married Mary Clements November 22, 1962 in Ladonia, Texas. Mr. Hemby was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Farmersville. Sam graduated from Ladonia High School in 1959 and received his Bachelor’s degree from East Texas College and his Masters and Administrative degrees from East Texas State University. Mr. Hemby coached in Van Alstyne, Wylie, Mt.Vernon, Ferris, Port Arthur, Community and Wolfe City.  He served as Principle of Farmersville ISD for 17 years before serving as Superintendent at New Castle ISD until his retirement.  After his retirement he moved back to Farmersville where he became a Realtor and served as an active member of the Farmersville Rotary Club and delivered Meals on Wheels.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Ladonia Cemetery with Rev. Matthew Aston Officiating.

 He is survived by his wife, Mary Hemby of Farmersville and children Bill Hemby and wife Beth of Celina, Texas, Jim Hemby and wife Sandy of Farmersville, Texas and Tony Hemby and wife Missy of Maud, Texas and daughter Cne’ Hemby of McKinney, Texas. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, and 1 great grandson. Other survivors include 2 brothers: Mike Neal and wife Linda of Rowlett, L.C. Neal and wife Carla of Rockwall , and sisters, Kathy Gardner and  Barry of Frisco and Pamela Partridge and Robert of Oklahoma.

Memorial services will be held October 8, 2020 at 2:00P.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Farmersville with Rev. Matthew Aston and Rev. Vick Casad officiating. Visitation will be held at the Church from 12:30 until service.

In lieu of flowers the family request contributions may be made to the Farmersville Education Committee for student Scholarships or the Parkinson’s foundation. Hurst’s Fielder-Baker Funeral Home in Farmersville is in charge of the arrangements.
