James "Trey" Douglas Curington III

James “Trey” Douglas Curington III, age 53 of Garland, Texas, passed away June 7, 2021. He was born November 15, 1967 in Corsicana, Texas to Rita (Redden) and James Curington. Trey was raised in Athens, Texas and graduated from Athens High School. He was a proud Athens Hornet for the rest of his life.  He attended the University of North Texas where he studied German and European Relations. While at UNT he developed a love of travel and studied abroad in Germany at the University of Luneburg and traveled throughout Europe. He married his high school sweetheart Mary Carol Whitman, whom he had loved since he was 15 years old, on June 15, 1991. Between dating and marriage they spent a wonderful 38 years together.  Trey spent his entire career at John Deere Company, Dallas and retired at the age of 51.  He spent his few retired years mostly on the golf course, his favorite place to be. Trey had a heart for veterans and spent most of his life befriending and collecting stories from WWII veterans.  He was a dedicated member of the Waterview Church of Christ in Richardson, TX where he served as a deacon and elder. He was a friend to all and a mentor to many.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; son, Jay Curington and wife, Jillian; daughter, Molly Curington; parents, James and Rita Curington of Athens; brother, Chris Curington and wife, Maggie of Abilene; sister, Julie Hill and husband, Scott of Athens; and many nieces and nephews. 

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 11, 2021 from 7-9 pm, at Turrentine Jackson Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 N Central Expy, Allen, TX 75013. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at Waterview Church of Christ, 1409 N. Waterview Dr, Richardson, TX 75080 with a graveside service at 3:30pm at the Athens City Cemetery in Athens, TX. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made In Memory of Trey Curington to the Waterview Church of Christ Mission Fund or the American Cancer Society.
