James William McGrath passed away unexpectedly following a short illness on August 14, 2023, in McKinney, Texas at the age of 53. He was born to David A. and Thelma M. (Wigdel) McGrath on July 20, 1970, in Bellevue, Washington.
James attended High School in Old Saybrook, Connecticut, graduating in 1988. Following high school, James served proudly in the U.S. Navy as a radioman. While serving, he was awarded a Navy Unit Commendation, a Sea Service Deployment Ribbon and a Southwest Asia Service Medal among other awards. James was honorably discharged in 1992 and began an extensive career in the telecommunications industry. Most notably, he spent most of his career with AT&T where he held numerous roles including sales, product management and global vendor management. While working for AT&T, James attended Texas A&M Commerce, where he earned an MBA.
James is preceded in death by his father David, mother Thelma and brother Jonathan McGrath. James is survived by his children, Addison (15) and Zachary (11) McGrath of McKinney, Texas and his sister, Jennifer Breward of Clinton, Connecticut. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, beloved cousins, nephews, nieces and great nephews. James was also a well-respected member of the McKinney community where he left behind his former wife Elizabeth McGrath and many wonderful friends and co-workers.
James will be interred at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, on September 22, 2023, at 1 p.m. Family and friends planning to attend should arrive at the cemetery at 12:45 p.m. Following the interment, there will be a reception and toast to James’ life at Delaney’s Irish Pub and Scratch Kitchen, 6150 Eldorado Pkwy., McKinney, Texas from 2 – 3:30 p.m.
