James Steven Cooper

James Steven Cooper was born on August 6, 1977 in Brooklyn, NY to Vickie Cooper and the late James Perkins.

James graduated from Northeastern High School in 1995.  He completed his Bachelor of Science degree at Elizabeth City State University where he became a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity Inc. and graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2000.  James continued to pursue his education by attending graduate school at East Carolina University.  He completed his Master of Business Administration with high honors in 2004.

On September 2, 2006 James married Takiyah White.  They were blessed with a beautiful daughter, Ayonna Nicole whom he cherished. 

James had a rich career and was committed to excellence throughout his professional lifetime.  His expertise covered a variety of roles in business and education to include; Lead System Analyst at Motorola, Executive Director of Aviation Institute of Maintenance, College President at Everest College, Executive Director of Ancora Education, and Campus President at Strata Tech Education Group.   James was also an Advisory Board Member of Little Elm High School and a volunteer for over 10 years at the North Texas Food Bank.

James entered eternal peace on Saturday July 8, 2023.  He was proceeded in death by his father James Perkins, grandmother Barbara Jean Walker-Cooper, Grandfather Tyrone Cooper, Great grandmother Pearl Annie Sims.

James was a loving husband and devoted father. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife Takiyah, his daughter Ayonna and son Javon Diavonte Cooper.  Mother-Vickie Cooper (Daryl) Johnson, Grandmother Doris Perkins, Stepmother Gloria, Mother-in-law Lauretta White, Siblings-Steven Perkins, James Perkins,  Shaunte Cooper, Chanell Perkins, Sister-in-Law Dominique Stanley, Uncle Glenn (Sarah) Minter, Nephews, Terrence, Deshawn, Terrell, niece Jada and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

James was a loving husband and devoted father. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Takiyah, daughter, Ayonna ; son, Javon Diavonte Cooper; mother, Vickie Cooper (Daryl) Johnson; grandmother, Doris Perkins; stepmother Gloria; mother-in-law, Lauretta White; siblings, Steven Perkins, James Perkins, Shaunte Cooper, and Chanell Perkins; sister-in-law, Dominique Stanley; uncle, Glenn (Sarah) Minter; nephews, Terrence, Deshawn, and Terrell; niece, Jada; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends during a visitation on Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 20, 2023 at The Potter’s House Church, 6777 West Kiest Boulevard, Dallas, Texas 75236.
