James Shannon Smith, affectionately known as "Shannon" passed away on February 23, 2024 after a long battle with cancer surrounded by his family.
Shannon was born on March 10, 1969 to James Ralph and Nell Faye Smith in Dallas, Texas. He was the oldest of two children.
Shannon was predeceased by his father, James Ralph Smith, several aunts, and uncles.
Shannon is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, son Zachary Smith and his partner Grace, two grandchildren, grandson Elijah Lynn and granddaughter Emma Lynn Smith, son Keegan Smith, his mother Nell Smith of DeSoto, Texas, his brother Matthew Smith and his wife María Smith of Waxahachie, Texas and their children, in laws Donna and James Hicks of Lancaster, Texas, sister in law Sheila Clark and her husband Darrell Clark of Bandera, Texas, several nieces and nephews and many family members.
After graduating from DeSoto High School in 1987, he went to study physics at the University of Texas at Arlington. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science, he started his first job at Nortel as an engineer then went to AT&T where he remained to his death. He was loved by his many colleagues throughout the years.
Shannon was a strong-willed person, but also had an enormous heart and sense of humor. He was generous, loyal, and smart. He loved guns, drums, fishing, jewelry, and hunting. He was a fighter to the end. When his time came, he carried himself with strength and full of love for those who went before him.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Turrentine‐Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas. The service will also be live streamed at the following link: https://celebrationoflife.tv/blog/james-shannon-smith. The family will receive guests for a visitation from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday evening at the funeral home.
