J. Scott Long

J. Scott Long of Richardson, Texas formerly of McKinney, Texas passed away October 28, 2018 at the age of 78, surrounded by his wife and children.  He was born November 2, 1939 to James A. Long and Maye (Phillips) Long in McKinney, Texas. Scott married Priscilla Ann Stovall on June 15, 1963 in McKinney, Texas.  One of his earliest jobs was working with his father as a highway contractor in Collin County, where he started driving at 9 years old.  Scott attended the University of Texas, and earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from East Texas State University.  He spent a short time farming and ranching, with registered Herefords, and growing wheat.  Scott also owned a GMC Truck dealership, worked at University of Texas at Dallas and taught computer programming at El Centro College in Dallas.   He became a CPA, running his own private practice until retiring in 2014.   Scott served as CFO of Juliet Fowler Homes. He grew up and was baptized in the First Christian Church of McKinney, where he met his wife Priscilla. After moving to Richardson, Scott was a devoted member of Community Christian Church, serving as a Deacon, Elder, and Church Treasurer for over 40 years.  He was a member of both the Richardson and McKinney Kiwanis Clubs, served as President of the Richardson Club, and Lieutenant Governor of the TX-OK district.

Throughout his life, Scott enjoyed photography, camping, RV trips especially to Colorado and New Mexico, and cruises, including trips to Alaska and Hawaii. He was a Boy Scout, and later an Explorer Scout adult leader.

Scott is survived by his beloved wife, Priscilla Long of Richardson, Texas; son, James Clifton Long and wife, Jana of Dripping Springs, Texas; daughter, Lisa Jill Long of Austin, Texas; son, Dr. Scott Wesley Long and wife, Megan of Houston, Texas; grandsons, James Hunter Long of Nashville, Tennessee, Carter Scott Long of Houston, Texas and Jack Henry Long of Houston, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Maye Long.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Community Christian Church, 1300 Holly Drive, Richardson, Texas 75080.  The family will receive friends during a visitation Friday evening from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.

The family requests memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or Community Christian Church.
