James R. "Pete" Peterson

James Randolph Peterson, Jr. passed away January 2, 2024 in Plano, Texas at the age of 78. He was born to James R. and Helen (Sidney Ford) Peterson, Sr. on February 11, 1945 in Norfolk, Virginia.

Pete attended Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia.  He enlisted in the Air Force in 1966 and in 1970 separated from the Air Force with the rank of SSGT.  During his service he was based at Patrick Air Force Base where he worked on Inertial Navigation and Doppler. The program supported the NASA Space Program on Apollo Missions 8, 10, 11, 12, and 13.

While in the USAF he met and married Virginia Ballou, an English teacher, on June 21, 1969.  Upon his separation from the USAF, the couple moved to Dallas, Texas and Pete continued his education at The University of Arlington in Texas.  Pete received a degree in Engineering and worked for Texas Instruments and Raytheon for 30 years. He received several awards for excellence during his years with the companies.

Pete and Virginia continued many friendships from their Air Force and TI years and traveled extensively during retirement.

Pete is survived by wife, Virginia; daughter, Sherry Nappi (Chris); grandchildren, Trevor and Stella Nappi; sister, Anna Tysor; nephew, Otto Tysor; niece, Deborah Anderson and many relatives through marriage.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate Pete’s life at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 2:00 p.m.  He will be inurned at DFW National Cemetery at 1:15 p.m., Thursday, January 18, 2024.
