James Preston Freeman, III passed away August 31, 2023 at the age of 56 in McKinney, Texas. He was born July 16, 1967 to James Preston Freeman, Jr. and L. Brunhilde (Koch) Freeman in Dallas, TX.
He married Alicia Campbell Johnson on March 27, 2005. Preston graduated from Lake Highlands High School and was a graduate of the Culinary Institute of Houston.
Preston was a Third Degree Mason and celebrated 20 years of sobriety in November 2022. Preston was also a proud Veteran of the United States Coast Guard. Nothing was more important to Preston than his family and friends. He will be remembered as a good, loving man with a quick wit that put a smile on everyone’s faces.
Besides loving to cook for family and friends, his culinary skills were on display at Pecan Hollow, Rockwall, and FireWheel Golf Courses. Other establishments such as Kuby’s, Chipotle, and Eatzie’s were lucky to have him. He was also the co-owner/operator of The Texas Scrambler in Plano, TX. Preston was currently semi-retired working with friends at Caroline’s Gelato on the square in Downtown McKinney.
Preston is survived by his wife, Alicia Freeman of McKinney, TX; son, Jordan Freeman of McKinney, TX; daughter, Logan Freeman of Plano, TX; daughter, Allison Freeman of Dallas, TX; son, Trevor Johnson of Lubbock, TX; son, Reese Johnson of Waxahachie, TX; Granddaughter, Charlotte Freeman; sister, Ingrid F. Tollefson and husband, Phillip of Wichita, KS; sister, Karin F. Turner and husband, Rick of Florissant, CO and many other loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A remembrance gathering will be held 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Thursday, September 7, 2023 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. A family and friends celebration will be held in Florissant, Colorado at the home of his sister Karin and brother-in-law Rick Turner at a later date.
