James Harold Piott

James Harold Piott, age 88, of Trenton, Texas, passed away Tuesday evening, November 27, 2007 at the Red River Regional Hospital in Bonham. He was born October 6, 1919 in the Klondike community east of Trenton. He was the son of James Nathaniel Piott and Leura Stevens. He graduated from Trenton High School in 1936, then served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. James married Addran Ownby on March 22, 1945, in Bonham, Texas. James was a long-time member of the Trenton First United Methodist Church. He was a career farmer who enjoyed the land and tending his cattle almost every day of his life. James was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Isabelle Piott, and a great-granddaughter, Kennedy Embrey. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Addran, daughter Pam Thompson and husband Steve, son Jim and wife Carolene, all of Trenton; grandchildren Amy Embrey, Amber James, Susie Welch, Aaron Piott, and Blake Piott. Great-grandchildren include Kasen and Kenleigh Embrey, Matthew and Rachel James, and Shasta and Shawn Welch. Also, sisters-in-law Polly Smith of Bonham and Jerline Ownby of Leonard, and brother-in-law R. L. Ownby and wife Sally of Chico, California; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, December 1, 2007, at the First United Methodist Church in Trenton. Rev. Mark Long and Rev. Joe Ed Goolsby will officiate. Burial will follow at Burns Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Leonard from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 30. Memorials may be made to the Trenton Methodist Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 216, Trenton, Texas 75490. Pallbearers will be Jim Piott, Aaron Piott, Randy Ownby, Steve Thompson, Bryan Embrey, and Steve James. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Ready, Leon Moore, Odell Wilson, Mac Woodruff, and World War II Navy buddy, Thurman Price.
