James Olen Henry, age 87, passed away at Faith Presbyterian Hospice in Dallas. He was born to Olen Oren and Lora Bernice Phillips Henry August 31, 1933 in Leonard.

James graduated from Bells High School, then joined the Army and served in the Korean War as a radar operator at Thule AFB in Greenland. Serving his neighbors and country was an important part of James’ life. After returning from war, he enrolled in Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. He was ordained in 1962 and preached full time in churches across Texas, many of them in North and Northeast Texas for 34 years, and he continued to serve in churches wherever he was called through 2016. After he retired, James and Irene enjoyed participating in the flea markets where James was known as the “Handle Man”.

James married Irene Jones February 4, 1956 in Hugo, Oklahoma. They raised four children together.

James is survived by his wife, Irene, children: Sherry Lowry, Kathye Henry, Jami Davidson and husband Bruce, and Cliff Henry. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Jeremy Looney, Christi Tatman and husband Doug, Pate Hubbert and wife Catelyn, Brice McGehee and wife Jenna, Brooke Hensley and husband J.C., Bailey McGehee, Nathan Henry, Seth Henry, Colt Henry, and ten great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at Bois D’Arc Creek Cowboy Church in Bonham with visitation one hour prior to the service. The service will be conducted by Kevin Lane and James Seigler. Interment will follow at Burns Cemetery in Trenton. The pallbearers will be Jeremy Looney, Pate Hubbert, Brice McGehee, Nathan Henry, Seth Henry, and Colt Henry. The honorary pallbearers will be Bob Edwards, Doug Tatman, Darrin Whitmire, Roy Nolen, Tommy Burns, Roy Schickendanz and Jessie McFarland.
