James Nicholas Cairo, age 82, passed away January 26, 2025, in Dallas, Texas. He was born on December 10, 1942, in Providence, Rhode Island, to his loving parents James Romeo Cairo and Rosina (Giardino) Cairo.
James grew up in Providence, Rhode Island, where he attended Saint Pius Elementary and Mt. Pleasant High School. After graduating from Mt. Pleasant High School, James received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island.
James met the love of his life, Anne DiBattista, and on October 12, 1964, they celebrated their love and commitment to each other in Providence, Rhode Island. Raising their daughters Kristen and Talia created a rich foundation for family life, filled with wonderful memories and happy times.
James’ story was a life well-lived, full of both personal and professional achievements. For over ten years, James supported his family as a salesman for Case Power and Equipment. He then operated Surplus Buyers with his brother for twelve years before returning to Case for the remainder of his Career before retiring.
James and Anne moved to Texas to be near their children. He came out of retirement to work in Real Estate for several years. His return to work showed his drive and willingness to stay engaged, even in his later years.
Leadership skills and commitment to giving back were reflected through James' active involvement in McKinney Kiwanis Club, especially with Halo TBall League. James valued contributing to the lives of others, especially kids. His service as Chapter President and a member of the Board of Directors did not go unnoticed. Being honored with the C.T. Eddins Award is reserved for someone who went above and beyond, not just fulfilling their duties but truly making a difference.
James was a man who valued family, work, and giving back. He also enjoyed traveling and boating.
James is survived by his wife, Anne Cairo, of McKinney, Texas; daughters, Kristen Vartian (David), of McKinney, Texas, and Talia Delacruz (Ramon), of Grand Prairie, Texas; grandsons, David Paul Vartian (Tilley), of Providence Village, Texas, and James Michael Vartian, of McKinney, Texas; nephews, John Cairo (Sandra), of McKinney, Texas and Sebastian Ziglar (Alexa) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; niece, Carleen Wendoloski (Joseph), of Sanford Florida; grand-nieces, Isabella Cairo, of McKinney, Texas and Fallon Wendoloski, of Las Vegas, Nevada; grand-nephew, Dylan Wendoloski, of Sanford, Florida; and many extended family members and friends, who will fondly cherish his memory.
James was preceded in death by his parents, James and Rosina Cairo; and brothers, Caesar Cairo and John Cairo.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 30, 2025, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.
